We’re in the Season of Lights, celebrated in various ways in various traditions.
In a few of those traditions, there is an inclusion of and reverence for Mother Mary, which is beautiful.
For several kindred spirits, though, we’ve noticed another Mariam arising strongly into our awareness in recent days and weeks: Mary of Magdala.
Who was Mary Magdalene, really?
And why is this question important at all given that we’re talking about a woman who lived 2,000 years ago, and about whom we have only slender references?
